The making and breaking of dreams: Developing talent in professional sports

Welcome to the third joint alumni event between the ESSEC Business School, the Stockholm School of Economics and the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management.

On Thursday, March 16 from 18.00-19.00 CET we would like to invite you to listen to the Directors of the Sports and Business, respectively the Sports Management Research Centers of the above mentioned institutes share their views on global sports.

"Since I was little, instead of dreaming my life, I prefer to live my dream. It's a choice, a principle and a privilege”, said Kylian Mbappé last May on Twitter when he extended his contract at Paris Saint-Germain. But what if choices are limited and living the dream is no longer an option?

In this online session, we will talk about the development of highly performing athletes and players. Less than 0.5% of boys who are selected into a football academy at the age of 9 ever play at the top level. In the US fewer than 2% of student-athletes go on to be professional athletes. With such bad odds, how can sport organisations develop top athletes and players without exploiting false hope and selling unachievable dreams? And what can we learn from athletes and players about our own careers in an ever-changing world of work?

Please register below by March 15.
