In spite of steady progress in closing gender inequality in several parts of the world over the last decades, gender remains a powerful predictor of many economic and social individual outcomes. Numerous national governments and international organizations have committed to address existing gender inequalities, on the grounds that protecting and promoting women’s rights is equivalent to protecting and promoting human rights. It is also generally understood that gender equality is instrumental in building societies that are more inclusive, and as such more socially and economically developed.

The conference will feature a combination of keynote speakers, paper presentations, and a panel discussion. Some of the themes addressed are the formation of social norms regarding women’s roles in society, intra-household bargaining power and reproductive decision-making, gender violence, and the glass ceiling for women in labor markets and politics.
