Preparing for your first day

Congratulations on your new job at the Stockholm School of Economics! We are looking forward to welcome you here. Here are some things you can do to prepare for your first day.
  1. Familiarize yourself with the school's website

Take some time to explore the Stockholm School of Economics' website to learn more about the school's mission, values, and history. This will give you a better understanding of the culture and community you are joining. Link to website: www.hhs.se

  2. Review your job description

Make sure you have a clear understanding of your job responsibilities, tasks and objectives. Review your job description and any other materials you received during the recruitment process to ensure that you are prepared for what is expected of you.

  3. Dressing for your first day

SSE does not have a formal dress code, and it is important that everyone can be themselves here. Informally, we recommend you follow the principle which in Swedish is called “helt och rent” (direct translation is “undamaged and clean”).

  4. Be prepared to ask questions

During the start of your employment is a great opportunity to ask questions and get to know your colleagues. Take notes and ask for clarification if necessary.

  5. Plan your way to work

All Stockholm School of Economics’ premises are located in the city central, and there are several ways to easily travel to work. Here are a few suggestions:

Public transportation: The Stockholm School of Economics is located in the heart of Stockholm and is easily accessible by public transportation. Within a five-ten-minute walking distance, you can reach both subway stations, buses and commuter trains and trains. You can plan your trip using the SL journey planner (https://sl.se/en/) to find the most convenient route for you.

Biking: Stockholm is a bike-friendly city, and biking to work is a popular option. The school has bike racks available for staff to use. You can also use a bike-sharing services or electrical scooters.

Driving: If you prefer to drive to work, there are parking garages nearby that you can use. However, SSE does not have their own garage or parking spaces, and parking in central Stockholm can be expensive, so be sure to factor that into your budget.

Walking: If you live within walking distance of the school, this is a great option. Stockholm is a beautiful city to walk in, and you can avoid the stress of commuting altogether.

  6. Arrive on time

Plan to arrive about 10 minutes early on your first day to allow for any unexpected delays. This will also give you time to settle in, get your bearings, and prepare yourself for the day ahead.

  7. Bring necessary documentation

You need to bring identification to pick up your IT account and email address on your first day.

  8. Get to know your colleagues

Take time to introduce yourself to your colleagues and get to know them. You'll be spending a lot of time with them, so building positive relationships early on can make a big difference.
