Where are all the great women artists?

Welcome to the very first Firestorm Talk – a series of talks exploring the visibility and value of women artists, both in society and the art market. After work/after school, March 7, 4 – 6pm, The Heckscher-Ohlin Room, floor 5, Sveavägen 65.

The title of this seminar is a reference to a 1971 essay by American art historian Linda Nochlin called "Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?". The essay have been noted for its contributions to feminist art history and theory. The essay's title have inspired to a number of essays, publications and seminars about obstacles that prevent women from succeeding.

Join us for a conversation between Charlotte Gyllenhammar, one of Scandinavia’s most prominent artists, and Cristina Ljungberg, founder of the Firestorm Foundation. The talk will be moderated by Michael Storåkers, Partner at the Firestorm Foundation and PhD student at SSE.

Art Initiative and Firestorm Foundation

Firestorm Foundation is a non-profit initiative founded by Cristina Ljungberg in 2021, dedicated to highlighting female and nonbinary artists for a more inclusive art world. Beginning in 2025, the Foundation will fund initiatives at SSE to advance knowledge and promote equality for female and nonbinary artists, including seminars, Master’s thesis scholarships, and donations to the SSE Permanent Collection.
