ABOUT THE SEMINAR

Welcome to a seminar lecture featuring Latvia’s Foreign Minister Krišjānis Kariņš in Stockholm on 18th of December, 2023. The seminar will focus on 'Nordic-Baltic response to geopolitical challenges in the region: Full-fledged support to Ukraine'.

Russia’s brutal war of aggression against Ukraine has shattered the basic premises of European security architecture directly affecting regional security. The Nordic-Baltic region is in the forefront of the imposed threats. Latvia`s main objective as a coordinator of the Nordic and Baltic cooperation in 2023 has been to strengthen our common security, while working on joint response to Russia’s aggression and support to Ukraine, including reconstruction. Nordic and Baltic Foreign Ministers voiced unanimous support to Ukraine at the annual meeting in Latvia this year. Latvia’s Foreign Minister Mr. Krišjānis Kariņš will address the collective efforts by the region to provide support to Ukraine on its route towards peace. In this path the reforms and full-fledged integration into the EU and NATO are crucial.

The seminar will be chaired by Torbjörn Becker, Director of SITE, accompanied by Gunnar Hökmark, former Member of the Swedish Parliament, and Andrii Plakhotniuk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Sweden.

SPEAKER

Krišjānis Kariņš is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia since 15 September 2023. He was the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia between 23 January 2019 and 15 September 2023.
