Nobel Prize in Economics for research on banks and financial crises

This year’s laureates in the Economic Sciences, Ben Bernanke, Douglas Diamond and Philip Dybvig, have significantly improved our understanding of the role of banks in the economy, particularly during financial crises. Particularly important is their research on the importance of avoiding bank collapses.

These are the startups being offered an investment from SSE’s new venture capital fund

Starting now, companies at the School’s startup incubator, SSE Business Lab, will be getting both a boost in their venture building and an offer of investment from the new fund SSE Ventures. Seven new startups are starting at the incubator today, four of which are eligible for investment.

On Thursday October 6th, the SSE Sport Initiative had its third event of the Sports & Inclusiveness Week with a workshop by sports research experts at SSE - Martin Carlsson Wall, Director of The Center for Sports & Business and Associate Professor at the Department of Accounting, and Fanny Almersson, PhD Student at the Department of Accounting. The topic of the evening workshop was The Scientific Support of Diversifying Sports Organizations.

CSR researchers on Sustainable Consumption and Ontological Cityism

CSR’s Director and Associate Professor Lin Lerpold has together with Professor Örjan Sjöberg published research which examines the sustainability of urban living, as urban areas are often portrayed as an opportunity to reduce environmental impacts. Highlighting amongst other things that the very nature of the agglomeration economies that allow for economising on natural resources may result in higher levels of consumption. They further explain the issue of 'ontological cityism' (the inter-urban issues of boundary drawing for measurement) when considering a city’s sustainability.
