Systembolaget’s Holistic Approach to Sustainability

Students in the Retail Management program attended a Theme Lecture with Systembolaget on the company's work with sustainable practices.

Susanna Westin, Sustainability Strategist at Systembolaget, discussed the company's ongoing efforts towards reaching sustainable practices and its future targets, notably going net zero on emissions by 2045. To reach the company's objectives, Systembolaget is actively working with examining and identifying sustainable alternatives throughout all stages of their supply chain. Given their comprehensive view of climate responsibility that extends to the far ends of their supply chain, and their goals of excellence in social, environmental and sustainable matters, Systembolaget has to be mindful of recognizing that the weight of their impacts on the environment often comes before they assume control of their products.

One of Systembolaget's current projects is Product Carbon Footprints (PCF). The purpose of the project is to increase the transparency of direct product-related emissions in order to motivate suppliers as well as consumers to make more sustainable choices. Additionally, it enhances the understanding of what processes and practices have more or less contribution in terms of carbon emissions.

Thank you Susanna for sharing your expertise with us! With Systembolaget's efforts like those, a more sustainable future seems within reach.
