Sport Talk with Anja Pärson, Åsa Svensson, and Johanna Lagus

Three of Sweden's most accomplished athletes - Anja Pärson, Åsa Svensson, and Johanna Lagus - are currently enrolled in the Management Diploma for Athletes (MDA) program at the Stockholm School of Economics.

This week, Anja Pärson (Former Alpine Skier and Olympic Gold Medalist), Åsa Svensson (Former Tennis Player), and Johanna Lagus (Former Hockey Player) came together for an inspiring Sport Talk session hosted by Anna Laurell Nash, Executive Director of the Center for Sports & Business.

The conversation centered around identity, career transition, and the powerful life lessons that elite sports imparts - lessons that remain just as relevant beyond the arena.

The athletes spoke candidly about how sport shaped their identities from a young age - and how challenging it can be to transition when your sense of self is so closely tied to performance and public recognition.

What do you actually take with you into your next career? And what can a tennis player, an alpine skier, and an ice hockey player learn at SSE?

Five key takeaways:

  • Resilience is essential. The road to success includes failure - often.
  • Teamwork and empathy matter. Achievements are greater when shared, and supporting others is just as important.
  • Step beyond your comfort zone. That is where real growth begins.
  • Prioritize mental health and self-respect. You are not your results. Cultivate self-love and embrace a growth mindset.
  • Dream big - but love the journey. Goals are important, but passion for the process is what sustains you.

A warm thank you to everyone who joined us!

The next Sport Talk is scheduled for May 5. Stay tuned for the invitation.
