Julia Delin and Andreas Johansson to leave SSE for new startup end of year

Julia Delin, CEO of SSE Ventures, and Andreas Johansson, CEO of SSE Business Lab, will leave their positions at the end of this year to start a new company together.

Under Julia’s and Andreas’s leadership, SSE Business Lab has seen tremendous development and was recently ranked by the Financial Times as the premier incubator in Sweden and with the best track record in Europe. The three programs at the Lab, Ideate, Activate and Incubate, are well established with a dedicated team running well-defined processes for the startups.

During their time, the investment fund SSE Ventures was also set up, recently complete a fully subscribed second close. The fund has now transitioned from the fundraising stage to making ongoing investments in SSE Business Lab companies, as governed by its Investment Committee. The investment strategy, procedures and operations are all established and early investments are being made on an ongoing basis.

The boards of SSE Ventures and SSE Business Lab have initiated a search process for new CEOs for the companies. Continuity is ensured since Julia and Andreas will stay on for another six months. The new company they are starting does not compete with SSE Ventures or the Business Lab.

Julia Delin: "I have truly enjoyed the work of supporting the 110+ startup teams we have admitted to the SSE Business Lab during my six years, and getting to know all the great investors, coaches and advisors. And I’m particularly grateful for the opportunity to build SSE Ventures. After more than six years in the organization, I will now begin a new entrepreneurial journey, but I am looking forward to a smooth handover and to following the work at SSE Ventures as a proud investor."

Andreas Johansson: "I’m very proud that SSE Business Lab now is positioned among the top incubators in Europe, and both the fund and the incubator at SSE are in a great state to be handed over to new leadership. I’m grateful for the past four years I spent with SSE Business Lab and I can’t wait to see how the organization continues to develop from here, especially since we want to return as entrepreneurs by applying to SSE Business Lab and getting an investment from SSE Ventures."

Lars Strannegård: "Julia and Andreas have done an incredible job leading SSE Business Lab, and now SSE Ventures, adding fuel to the entrepreneurial fire that has always been present at SSE, and realizing more of the entrepreneurial potential at the school. Naturally, it would have been great if they had stayed on, but I look forward to following them in their startup journey and hope to see them in the incubator as entrepreneurs."
