Changes on their way
Misum is a new center for research and development of education for sustainable markets at SSE. It is Mistra (the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research) which has committed SEK 55 million to help make sustainability issues central to the research and education at SSE. In this way, we want to ensure that sustainability questions, in a natural manner, will be a part of our educational program, and thus also be a part of our future leaders' decision making.
Through the Global Challenges Foundation, we have been able to, beginning autumn 2016, fundamentally change our bachelor programs with a focus on context, analyses and reflections regarding the global challenges we as a society face. I am convinced that these changes will strengthen our educational programs and increase awareness and understanding of sustainability issues.
Both of these initiatives are desired and will very significantly affect our educational programs.
Right now we are working hard together with our researchers and teachers so that our visions and goals are reflected in our curriculum. For me personally, these matters are of great concern (my thesis was about environmental issues, and I have done research on sustainability-related issues for many years). One of the reasons I accepted the job as president was for the chance to develop SSE’s educational curriculum.
