Large differences when female and male students from SSE choose industry

The most recent employer survey of Stockholm School of Economics’ students indicates several distinct differences between female and male students including when it comes to choosing industry after graduation.

Some differences between female and male students:

  • The financial sector attracts 56% of male students, while only 32% of the female students.
  • 44% of the female students want to work with marketing, while only 17% of the male students.
  • 38% of the female students want to work with trade, while only 23% of the male students.
  • Media attracts 27% of the female students, while only 15% of the male students.
  • IT / Telecom attracts 28% of male students, while only 8% of the female students.

"The interesting question is why we find these differences. To some extent it depends on how employers are acting and working with gender and diversity issues in their organization", says Wahlund, a professor at SSE.
