New Chair Endowed at the Stockholm School of Economics

The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) has received a donation of 50M SEK from the Johan Björkman Foundation (Johan Björkmans allmännyttiga stiftelse för ekonomisk forskning mm). The donation allows for the establishment of a new chair in Economics, which will be named in Johan Björkman’s honor

Johan Björkman, who passed away in 2007 at the age of 62, was an SSE alumnus, earning his degree in 1966. He was a leading figure within the Swedish business community and served in many significant positions, including CEO of Asken and Carnegie & Company; Board Chair at Nordstjernan, Skanditek and the Third AP Fund; and member of a number of other boards.

The Foundation was created in 2003 by Johan Björkman with an aim, among others, of supporting economic research at the Stockholm School of Economics.

“We are incredibly happy that the Johan Björkman Foundation has chosen to endow an important professorship in one of our core areas, economics. Because SSE does not receive an annual research allocation from the state, donations of this kind provide invaluable support for our research efforts, said Professor Lars Strannegård, President of the Stockholm School of Economics.
