SSE establishes a professorship and a new center with the support of the Wallenberg Foundations
The donations will form the cornerstone for the Center for Innovative and Sustainable Business Development, representing a further step in the School’s focus on long-term company development, innovation and sustainability. The professorship and the center will focus on shareholder governance, leadership and how companies can be developed successfully in the long term, and on building sustainable, maintainable growth through continuous innovation and operational efficiency.
In 1903 K.A. Wallenberg turned 50 and in connection with this, a donation was made that enabled the founding of the Stockholm School of Economics. Since that time, the Wallenberg family has played a key role in the development of the School. This year, cousins Jacob and Marcus Wallenberg turn 60 and, to mark the occasion, the Wallenberg Foundations are making a donation enabling the establishment of a professorship and a research center at the Stockholm School of Economics. This will represent a natural continuation of the support and cooperation that has now existed for more than 100 years.
“The professorship and the center further profile the Stockholm School of Economics as a center for knowledge and critical reflection on how companies develop over time and drive social development forward. The venture strengthens research and education and establishes meeting places for the business and social sectors. The support shown to the Stockholm School of Economics by the Wallenberg foundations and the Wallenberg family is outstanding,” says Lars Strannegård, President of the Stockholm School of Economics.
The Center will collaborate with business and industry to illuminate and examine the role of companies in the handling of the considerable social and environmental challenges that society faces. The professorship entitled “The Jacob and Marcus Wallenberg Chair in Innovative and Sustainable Business Development” will be advertised soon.
