The Nordics: Partners in Innovation?

Örjan Sölvell from the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) and Torger Reve from the Norwegian Business School (BI), presented a new report about the Nordics at a conference held at SSE on Wednesday, April 20. Innovation, growth, and the connections between Swedish and Norwegian clusters were the main focus at the conference “The Nordics: Partners in Innovation?”

The report provided information about the industrial challenges facing both Norway and Sweden by designing an industrial map of Norway and Sweden in order to highlight the scope of opportunities for corporations. Nordic economies are in rapid transformation, requiring innovation and entrepreneurship at a much higher speed than ever before.

The report also provided a set of policy recommendations developed by the innovation partnership which involved research organizations and businesses. The recommendations include the following:

1.      Build a common industrial knowledge base

2.      Upgrade and globalize existing cluster industries

3.      Transform existing green cluster industries

4.      Create new innovative knowledge industries with a Nordic base
