SSE students to study entomophagy (insects-eating) in Ghana and to introduce it in the Swedish market
Sebastian Blendow and Lukas Bolin Willfors receiving the scholarship from Lars Strannegård, President of the Stockholm School of Economics.
The president of the Stockholm School of Economics Lars Strannegård, who appointed the scholars, acknowledges that:
Sebastian Blendow and Lukas Bolin Willfors have created an interesting project, with a strong commitment and enthusiasm for studying entomophagy (insects-eating) and how to introduce it in the Swedish market. With a clear and well-defined goal, they have further shown an admirable eagerness to overcome challenges involved in their project.
The Gun and Einar Larsson Scholarship offers outstanding students at Stockholm School of Economics the opportunity to create and realize innovative projects abroad according to their own design. The aim of the scholarship is to offer experience and personal development outside of the academic realm that benefits the student’s education and professional aspirations.
During the summer, Sebastian and Lukas will travel to Ghana, where they will interview experts in the field, speaking to those currently in the business in Ghana, contacting international companies working within the field and conducting a market analysis in Sweden in order to better understand the potential and viability of entomophagy in Sweden. The aim is to introduce entomophagy in the Swedish market.
– Our ambition is to, at the end of our project, be able to have such an understanding of the field and the various motivations behind the consumption of insects, that we will have reached a point where we could theoretically begin the process of creating a company dedicated to this purpose. This will entail having an idea of how an insect related product would be best shaped, marketed and produced. At this point we will analyze all of our available data, the viability of an entomological food product, and depending on our results, potentially draft an application for a first round of venture capital financing. say Sebastian Blendow and Lukas Bolin Willfors.
