Volvo Cars new sponsor for Female Economist of the Year scholarship

Volvo Cars is to become the main sponsor of the Female Economist of the Year scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding female student at the Stockholm School of Economics.

The Female Economist of the Year scholarship was founded in 2001 by Swedish-American business woman Barbro Ehnbom and is awarded annually. The aim is to promote future female leaders and to contribute to improved conditions for women in business.

“We have set out to disrupt the automotive industry. To succeed, we need the most talented people. We are therefore proud to be the main sponsor of the Female Economist of the Year scholarship. We look forward to presenting challenges to the winner and being challenged by her,” says Björn Annwall, Senior Vice President Global Consumer Experience, Volvo Car Group.

The laureate will be offered a tailor-made position at Volvo Cars, providing insight into a broad selection of the company’s businesses and operations. The scholarship extends over a 12-month period and the laureate will have the opportunity to delve deep into the world of Volvo Cars, learning about the organization, its ambitions, products and people, as well as the exciting future opportunities and challenges facing the company. The laureate will be empowered to make a difference alongside creative and open-minded colleagues from all around the globe. The laureate will receive support and guidance from managers, collaborate closely with colleagues and receive coaching from a senior mentor.

“We are proud to present Volvo Cars as our new main sponsor for the scholarship. For SSE, Volvo Cars is an ideal partner, giving the laureate a platform for an international career in a truly interesting business sector,” says Lars Strannegård, President of the Stockholm School of Economics.

The application period opens in December and this year’s laureate will be announced at a ceremony at in April, 2019.
