Statement regarding the situation in Iran

Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) is deeply concerned about the reports of the violent development for students at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran.

The demonstrations in Iran are entering their third week since 22-year-old Mahsa Zhina Amini was detained by Iranian moral police and later died in police custody on September 16. Following this, anti-regime protests have spread across the country and recently, international media reported that Iranian security forces have surrounded students at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, shooting at them and firing tear gas.

The violation of democratic- and human rights is deeply concerning, and SSE stands in solidarity with the Iranian students as they mobilize to reclaim their human rights, dignity, and basic freedoms.

Our thoughts are with those who are impacted by the situation in Iran.
