August 26-30, 2024: Introduction week (compulsory)

To ensure that you settle in quickly, we’re running a compulsory introduction program the week prior to the program start.

During this week, you will be introduced to the academic aspects of your studies and meet your fellow students as well as the professors and staff. A number of lectures and seminars will be organized in order to introduce you to SSE and to the program. Please note that the introduction is mandatory for all students and includes your registration to the program.

The student association at SSE (SASSE) is also organizing many fun social activities the whole week - make sure that you don't miss out on all the fun!

Preparatory course in Mathemathics

August 12-23, 2024 (strongly recommended but not compulsory)

We offer a two-week Mathematics course prior to the compulsory introduction week. The course is strongly recommended but not compulsory. The course is given on campus 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday. The first Monday (Monday 12th of August) we start with a small mingle in the atrium at 09:30, followed by an introduction lecture until lunch.

The purpose of this preparatory course is to provide you with a foundation necessary for our BSc programs. Many SSE students say that this course has been extremely valuable to them and that it has definitely helped them perform once their studies begin. They also say that it's a great way to get to know your classmates and the premises.

In the Bachelor program in Business & Economics, the first year of studies includes two academic modules in Mathematics. The first module is Mathematics A, and it covers an obligatory learning outcome for the course BE601 Data Analytics I, a course that runs (through the first teaching period) in the first semester. The second module is Mathematics B, and it covers an obligatory learning outcome for the course BE602 Data Analytics II, a course that runs in the second semester.

In the Bachelor program in Retail Management, you will have a Mathematics module during one of your first courses at SSE.

It is also a good idea to generally refresh your knowledge in Mathematics before commencing your studies. You can find some exercises here

There will be a compulsory diagnostic test on general knowledge in basic High School Mathematics which will take place during the Introduction Week.

If you have any questions, please reach out to summermath@hhs.se.

Events for newly admitted BSc students

We have had a series of online events for admitted international BSc students during spring! You can watch some of them recorded below.

Would you like to learn Swedish?

SSE's Welcome to Swedish course (strongly recommended but not compulsory)

SSE organizes a popular introductory course for students who wish to familiarize themselves with the Swedish language and culture. Even though all our programs are entirely taught in English, many international students highly recommend learning some Swedish as it can really help you get settled quicker in your new country.

The course starts with two online activities and continues with four activities on campus during the same weeks as the Preparatory course in Mathematics:

  • August 5, 16:15 (online on Zoom)
  • August 7, 16:15 (online on Zoom)
  • August 12, 16:15 PM
  • Augst 14, 16:15 PM
  • August 19, 16:15 PM
  • August 21, 16:15 PM

The course is strongly recommended for all non-Swedes! You can attend both this course and the preparatory course in Mathematics.

Swedish courses at SSE when your studies have started:

As soon as you have enrolled you will also be able to register to our course “1006 Introductory Swedish” (7.50 ECTS credits) that runs during the Fall semester 2024. It aims to help students become confident in basic Swedish and provide the tools needed for speaking Swedish outside the classroom, both in their everyday lives and in professional settings.

After that course, you will also be able to continue with “1007 Introductory Swedish 2” and two more Swedish courses.

Later on during your studies, you will be able to take the more advanced Swedish courses "1008 Business Swedish" and "1009 Spoken Professional Swedish".

Other Swedish courses:

Career support at SSE

More than 90% of our BSc students have a job within three months of graduation, while more than 70% have a job before graduation, for example at one of our corporate partners. Here are some very good reasons for that:

SSE career services

As a student at SSE, you will have access to a career platform with ads for part-time jobs, internships as well as jobs after graduation. The platform also lists upcoming career events, provides you with interactive tools, such as a CV lab and mock interviews and enables you to book individual coaching sessions. Read more about SSE's career support.

SASSE Student Career Services
The student association SASSE provides a student-driven complement to the career services provided by SSE. Every year, they arrange several events focusing on perfecting interviews, writing cover letters, CVs and arranging educational events for students to get a better understanding of different industries. Last but not least, they organize one of Sweden's most reknowned career fairs, Handelsdagarna.

Networking opportunities within the BSc programs
New for 2024 is the 16-week internship course fully in English within the BSc in Business & Economics program. It's an elective course that you apply for and that can be taken in semester 5 (year 3). It is taken in combination with writing your Bachelor's thesis or two other elective courses.

Meanwhile, the BSc in Retail Management continues to provide fantastic networking opportunities and collaborations with leading companies through the much-appreciated Applied Retail Track that runs all six semesters.

Residence in Sweden after graduation
Did you know that if you have a residence permit for studies in higher education in Sweden and have completed your studies you can get a residence permit to seek employment or start your own business here? This residence permit is given for 12 months. Feel free to read more on the Swedish Migration Board's website or get in touch with our BSc admissions team to receive more information.
