Cäcilie Habbel
Meet Cäcilie – Associate at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and MSc in Business & Management alum.
Describe your role and what it is that you do overall and on a day-to-day basis.
As an Associate at BCG, I work in small teams to support organisations in tackling their big questions - ranging from long-term strategy to hands-on implementation. Since I am still a generalist, the range of topics and industries that projects are set in can vary a lot which makes it a fantastic environment to explore. Day-to-day, this means problem-solving with my team, aligning with clients, gathering data, conducting analyses, and turning these insights into recommendations, including developing specific tools and supporting implementation. No day is the same, really!
What interested you about the field, company, or role you are currently in?
I was fascinated by the idea of getting to work on some of the most relevant challenges for leading companies, alongside incredibly smart and inspiring people. This exposure, the fast pace and team spirit really are exciting. At the same time, growth and developing a strong and well-rounded toolkit in analytical skills and communication is emphasized and prioritized in our daily work and interactions—learning never stops.
Why did you choose to study your subject area at SSE?
Coming from a non-business background prior to my Masters, I was excited about MBM because it combines a) a well-rounded and future-oriented education in business management, which fascinated me because our lives and society are shaped by and in return shape the way businesses operate, b) the very interactive and dynamic way of learning in MBM through case work, presentations and group work and c) SSE as a school that really brings together a unique batch of inspiring people.
How did your time at SSE help guide you on the career journey you have embarked on?
SSE encouraged me to simply throw myself into the many opportunities that the school offers- from moving to Washington, D.C. and the world of business diplomacy as a Wallenberg Fellow, learning from inspiring alumni and mentors, to sharing experiences with peers, running internal events for Spexet and getting immersed in Swedish life. The seemingly endless range of experiences to get involved in and the supportive environment helped me build confidence, and broadened my perspective to shape my path after SSE.
Following your time at SSE, do you have any words of wisdom or advice for current students?
Take every chance offered to you to expand your horizon and explore a new career path, life perspective, culture or subject area; there is always something new to do. Engage in your courses and experiences outside of class with open curiosity rather than seeing them as a checkbox or test. Get involved in SSE’s unique student life and challenge yourself - it’s fun and one of a kind!
What are three words that sum up your time at SSE?
Eye-opening, ambitious, fun.
