Nov. 05, 2020
Vinnova continues its long-term support in financial market research in Sweden and has decided to allocate SEK 100 million over the coming five-year period to the Swedish House of Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics.
Vinnova’s commitment will continue for another five years, until 2030, provided that the financial services sector contributes with the corresponding amount and the center achieves its ambitious goals. That means that the Swedish government, through Vinnova, will finance the Swedish House of Finance with a total of SEK 200 million during the period 2021–2030.
“The center plays an important role in further developing scientific research excellence”, says Darja Isaksson, CEO of Vinnova. “It also provides an important hub and necessary infrastructure for Swedish financial market research, not least thanks to the solid commitment from players in the financial market industry.”
The Swedish House of Finance was founded as a non-profit association in 2011 by the Swedish government, the Stockholm School of Economics, and the private financial sector in Sweden. The aim was to strengthen financial research in Sweden and to create a national center for financial market research that is competitive at the highest international level. The initiative has been very successful and in only ten years, the center has established itself as one of the top research institutions in Europe.
“We are grateful for the continued support from Vinnova, which is a prerequisite for maintaining a strong backing from the Swedish financial sector. This gives us the opportunity to develop the center to continue delivering world-class research and education. Sweden is a country with both, great power of innovation and a strong financial sector. Our close collaborations between research institutes, companies, and public players shows just how important our research is for the Swedish economy”, says Anders Anderson, director, Swedish House of Finance.
A total of 22 leading companies in the financial sector have already committed to an annual contribution during the period 2021–2030, totalling SEK 150 million. The objective is to reach SEK 200 million over the next ten-year period. The strong support from the industry is crucial for the Swedish House of Finance to be able to continue delivering world-class financial research relevant to society and the financial market
