Why Art at SSE?

During the spring of 2013 Stockholm School of Economics initiated a collaboration with Magasin 3 in order to infuse new impulses in the academic environment. This was sprung from the ongoing debate on the influence of humanities in business context, and its importance for industry to flourish creatively. Thus we addressed another relevant subject related to this - namely the fact that business-educations also must widen its scope and the fact that esthetic subjects facilitates theoretical learning.

This collaboration constituted nine video screenings that were showcased in the school’s atrium with the ambition to show how art have the capacity to put things in a wider spectra. How it expresses the complexity of being a human. It challenges our accustomed, and many times simplified, ways of seeing the world. The atrium is a space that brings together the schools different institutions, it is a place for where knowledge can be challenged, for development and for debate.

In this symposium - ”Why art at SSE” the panel addressed the different questions that can arise in relation to art. What does the art do to us? What is its function in the public space? Is humanities as a subject relevant to business education? 

This panel with participants from SSE, Magasin 3 and the art world brought up questions regarding art's place in society and the importance of nurturing as well as embrace the perspectives which the artistic language contribute with - culturally, politically and economically.
