Hilde Retzlaff
Hilde Retzlaff received the Maria Bonnier Dahlin foundation scholarship in 2016. The guest jury for that year was the Artist's Editor-in-Chief Sofia Curman and Angelika Knäpper from the gallery Bohman-Knäpper. From their motivation:
"Hilde Retzlaff develops her own mythology when she scrapes up the remains of the environment, other people's rubbish, and methodically and carefully transforms the materials into something else. In her work there is an inherent striving to find the way to the material's full potential; to refine them, like the alchemist. Poster paper becomes paperier in her collage, old clothes become more textile tactile by weaving into carpets. In the sculpture series Logogram the objects found appear as fossils. As an imprint in concrete, things are unidentifiable and only present in their absence; silent, elusive but extremely powerful and obviously significant signs of our time. Hilde Retzlaff writes that she is on a spiritual journey. We look forward to following her on it. "
