Firestorm Foundation - Stories that need to be told

Firestorm Foundation is a non-profit initiative based in Stockholm, founded by Cristina Ljungberg in 2021. The Foundation is focused on highlighting women and nonbinary artists and fostering a more inclusive art world.

The operations involve acquiring works for an iconic collection of artistry. Key figures in modern and contemporary art, including Hilma af Klint, Tracey Emin, Yayoi Kusama, Louise Bourgeois, and Ulla Wiggen, are all represented in the collection of, to date, 200 works. With this as a base, collaborative efforts around research, publications, exhibitions, and artist conversations are established, with institutions such as Moderna Museet, Guggenheim, the Swedish Institute in Paris and the Stockholm School of Economics.

In addition to working with the Collection, The Foundation is putting effort into creating different platforms (website, social media and physical spaces) and investments that support research, artist specific projects, and other projects that contributes to spreading knowledge of women artistry, raise awareness of the discrepancies in the art market and minimize the inequalities in the art industry as a whole.

As part of the agreemant between Firestorm foundation. and SSE, Firestorm will, during 2025 to 2027, also support

  • Seminars and art talks showcasing female artists, knowledge about female artists from the Nordic countries and the status and progress of female artists in the art market.
  • Increase the number of female artists represented in the SSE Art Collection.
