Graceland - study places in the corridor on floor 5

In the 20th century, the architect Ivar Tengbom designed both the Stockholm School of Economics and the Högalid church on Södermalm. Now these buildings has come together in Mats Theselius' special edition of the chair Grace: "Handelshögskolan" (in the vernacular already called the Handelshögstolen), which has been placed in the corridor on the fifth floor in our main building as study places.

The chairs are an interpretation of the school´s main building: Ivar Tengbom’s house from 1925. Both the building and the chairs are designed in the style called Swedish Grace.

The chairs, Grace by Mats Theselius, were made by Källemo and the copper on the back is re-used from the renovation of the roof of Högalidskyrkan on Södermalm – another building by architect Ivar Tengbom (built between 1916 and 1923). 15 tons of copper sheets were replaced in recent years and some used to produce these chairs.

The buttons in the backrests of the chairs are patterned like the ceiling of the SSE book tower. The leather (nubuck) is the same color as the facade of Sveavägen 65, and the color of the legs is inspired by our big oak door. Each chair has a numbered plaque on the back.

The 18 chairs are a gift to all SSE students, to provide more study places. Each pair has a donor – see the list below. Between each pair are a small table and lamp, donated by Beijerstiftelsen, the owner of Svenskt Tenn (a shop founded in the 1920s – the prime era of Swedish Grace.)

Take a seat in the brand new Handelshögstolen!

Chairs are donated by Sebastian Alexandersson, Lars Bane, Carl-Johan Bonnier, Oscar Gyllenhammar, Carl Hirsch, Per Josefsson, Laurent Leksell, Michael Storåkers and PO Söderberg.
