Dr Christian Ketels is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Strategy and Competitiveness at the Stockholm School of Economics; a Principal Associate at Professor Michael E. Porter's Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness of the Harvard Business School; and an Executive Director of the foundation "Clusters and Competitiveness", a not-for-profit organisation incorporated in Barcelona.
Dr Ketels' research interests focus on the relationship between company strategy and location and on competitiveness at different geograpic levels, especially in Europe. He received his PhD (Economics) from the London School of Economics where he developed microeconomic models analyzing the relationship between international competition and firm efficiency. Dr Ketels holds further degrees from the Kiel Institute for World Economics and Cologne University. He worked as a strategy consultant for Monitor Company from 1997 to 2000 in the UK, Germany, and Scandinavia, and was part of a team that founded Cell Strategy, now part of Adcore AB, a Sweden-based internet strategy consultancy, in 2000. Dr Ketels continues to have a keen interest in the politics of his country Germany where he was a member of the CDU Internet-Commission in 2000-2001.
Dr Ketels participates in clusters and competitiveness activities all over the world, as a leader of projects, a member of advisory groups, an author of documents and articles on economic policy issues, and a much-sought after speaker on competitiveness and strategy.
