Andreas von Goldbeck read law at Oxford and Cambridge—ultimately earning a DPhil and a PhD—and qualifying as a Solicitor of England and Wales. In addition, he received a Juris Doctor from Columbia University School of Law and the distinction of ‘James Kent scholar’ awarded by Columbia Law School “in recognition of outstanding academic achievement”. He also qualified as an Attorney-at-Law, authorized to practice law in the state of New York.
Andreas von Goldbeck’s main research interests are in the areas of Sustainability and Law, Commercial Law, International Commercial Arbitration, Contract Law, European Private Law, Comparative Law, and Private International Law. Andreas von Goldbeck is an academic member of CIVICA, representing the Stockholm School of Economics in the research project Democracy in the 21st Century.
At SSE Executive Education, Andreas teaches Business Law and International Business Law; he also teaches in the Executive MBA program.
For a number of years, Andreas has practiced as an attorney in New York at one of the world’s most prestigious law firms, specializing in US litigation, international commercial litigation, and arbitration. Additionally, he had an active pro bono practice, representing clients in court proceedings.
Andreas von Goldbeck has been a law fellow at Christ Church, Oxford, a member of the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford, as well as a researcher at the Institute of European and Comparative Law, University of Oxford. At Oxford, he co-founded and taught the highly successful course on International Commercial Arbitration as part of the BCL/MJur program—a ”world-renowned taught graduate course in law”.
Andreas von Goldbeck has also served as a member of the law faculty of ESSEC Business School, Paris, Singapore, where he was honored as the ‘Best Tenured Professor’ (Le professeur lauréat du « Prix du Professeur permanent Préféré »). He held the position of Director of the Center for Commercial Contracts and Dispute Resolution, Paris-Singapore. During his tenure at ESSEC, Andreas von Goldbeck taught courses in the Executive MBA, Global MBA, and various Master (Grande École) programs. Additionally, Andreas designed and taught a series of highly successful bespoke Executive Education programs.
Moreover, Andreas von Goldbeck has been a visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of European and Comparative Law, University of Oxford. He is also a Fellow of the Commercial Law Centre, University of Oxford.
With law degrees from universities including Oxford, Cambridge, and Columbia, a number of years’ work experience at one of the world’s top law firms, academic positions at the Oxford Law Faculty, Christ Church, Oxford, ESSEC Business School, Paris, Singapore, and now the Stockholm School of Economics, Andreas von Goldbeck is uniquely positioned as an academic, lawyer and arbitrator.
