The Ax:son Johnson Institute for Statecraft and Diplomacy is honored to have hosted a side event during the 60th Munich Security Conference, emphasizing the importance of applying historical perspectives to enhance strategic decision-making processes. At the dinner panel, entitled "The End of the End of History: Rethinking Western Policy towards Russia", our three panelists, Anna Wieslander (Atlantic Council), Niall Ferguson (The Hoover Institution, Stanford University), and John Bew (Centre for Grand Strategy, Department of War Studies), discussed why Western states have failed to learn the lessons of history in the past and why policymakers benefit from using applied history to inform their strategies to resist and confront Russian aggression going forward.

The panel was moderated by Iain Martin (Engelsberg Ideas) and with contributions by our two partner center leaders, Francis J. Gavin (Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs, Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and Brendan Simms (Centre for Geopolitics). The dinner was hosted by our Director, Mattias Hessérus.
