Market values? Valuation and price formation in markets for in-patient pharmaceuticals.

This 3-year research project is run by Hans Kjellberg, Ebba Sjögren and Linus Johansson Krafve and funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (RJ). The project’s focal concern is the link between value and price and how this link is achieved in markets. The project uses a comparative study design to investigate how new cancer drugs are being valued and how their prices are set in four national markets (England and Wales, Germany, New Zealand and Sweden). The project relies on documentary and interview data and attends to recent efforts to reorganize the valuation and pricing practices in the studied markets. While data collection is still ongoing, a first article that investigates the role of list prices in markets is currently under review for Economy and Society.
