How the H&M Foundation Transforms the Fashion Industry for a Thriving People and Planet

Fernanda Drumond, Strategy Lead at H&M Foundation, treated the Retail Management students with a glimpse into what the H&M Foundation does to enable a future where people and planet not only survives but thrives.

The H&M Foundation works with multiple actors within the fashion industry and uses philanthropic resources to fund and aid initiatives that fosters a socially inclusive and planet positive textile industry. Fernanda showcased this by bringing up several examples that exemplified what the organization does.

One standout example shared by Fernanda was a project in India where the H&M Foundation works to empower informal groups of waste pickers, integrating them as a key player in the global circular system providing actors with waste that can be recycled. Not only does this contribute to a healthier planet, but it also allows them to uplift themselves out of poverty.

Students left the lecture with a fresh perspective on sustainability and got reminded that we often forget to take a holistic approach and overlook the informal networks that already exist.

Special thanks to Emma Hüll, Early Careers Partner, and to Fernanda Drumond for delivering an inspiring message. With efforts like those of the H&M Foundation, the future of fashion looks promising indeed.
