Ruilin applies a temporal lens to explore how knowledge professionals navigate the dynamics of autonomy and control in hybrid work, with a particular focus on work-life boundaries and collaboration. His research employs a relational, qualitative approach.

Prior to his research work, Ruilin gained practical experience at numerous Chinese and American tech companies, specializing in cloud development and operations. He earned a master's degree in management and organization in Finland and a bachelor's degree in management information systems in the United States, with partial studies in China.
