SITE welcomes Christine Bäckström and Henrik Borelius as new board members

The Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) is delighted to announce Christine Bäckström (CEO at the International Council of Swedish Industry) and Henrik Borelius (Active Owner and Chairman of Side System) as new board members at SITE.

We are delighted to welcome Christine Bäckström and Henrik Borelius as the newest board members at SITE. Both bring a wealth of experience and strategic insight that will significantly enhance our board’s ability to guide SITE in its mission. Their strong leadership, extensive expertise, and proven ability to drive innovation and success make them ideal additions as SITE continues to address the evolving economic challenges faced by transitioning economies. We are excited about the valuable contributions Christine and Henrik will bring in shaping the future direction of SITE.

About Christine Bäckström

Christine began her professional career at SITE in 1996 as an assistant to the programme director. In 1997, she was accepted into the Foreign Ministry’s diplomatic programme, which marked the beginning of a 22-year career in Foreign Service. During her tenure, Christine served at several embassies and departments within the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm, focusing primarily on economic and business-related issues. Before her recruitment as CEO of the International Council of Swedish Industry in 2019, she also held the position of head of the Government Secretariat for Project Exports for five years. Christine’s extensive international experience and leadership will bring invaluable insights to SITE’s ongoing efforts to tackle the complexities of economic transitions worldwide.

About Henrik Borelius

Henrik is the owner and chairman of Side System, a Swedish hydraulics manufacturing company, and Maskin & Montage Mech AB, specializing in elevator demolition. Henrik also holds board positions at Myneva, a software provider in five countries, Iyuno SDI, a global media services company in 40 countries, and AKind/Academic Work, an IT and technology staffing company operating in six countries.

From 2000 to 2018, Henrik served as CEO of Attendo, the leading social and healthcare provider in the Nordic region. Under his leadership, Attendo grew its revenue 16-fold, transforming from a company in crisis to a thriving organization with 24,000 employees across four countries. Henrik also successfully led Attendo’s IPO on the Stockholm Stock Exchange in 2015. His vast experience in scaling businesses, guiding transformative growth, and navigating complex industries will be a great asset to SITE’s mission of fostering economic resilience and sustainable development.
