Application for Post Doc position -MERITA

The Center for Responsible Leadership at the Stockholm School of Economics is seeking candidates for a 1-year 80% Post Doc position within the MERITA project.

Your profile

We are looking for candidates with a Ph.D. in any discipline represented in the CIVICA alliance, for example Management, Law, Economics, Sociology, Political Sciences or Philosophy. Doctoral degree must be completed before taking up the position which has a preliminary starting date mid-March 2023. Candidates should have a research background in topics related to migration studies.

We especially seek candidates with a multi-disciplinary academic background (a PhD from one of the CIVICA universities is a merit) to organize the research activities of the MERITA project (see full project description). As a candidate, you thrive in an inclusive research environment, that is a multidisciplinary and multi-paradigmatic environment where research aims at making contributions to both academic knowledge and a better society. You are open, considerate, and sympathetic to different research disciplines and paradigms such as positivist, interpretivist and critical. You have strong qualities in both research and outreach communication activities.

Your qualifications

Successful applicants will exhibit the ability to publish in peer-reviewed international journals in their disciplines. This will be evidenced by their publications and research pipeline.

Experience in the moderation of an academic forum (e.g., conference track, panel) or the moderation of non-academic creative activities is expected.

It is a merit if candidates have a documented capacity to attract research grants or have previous experience in drafting research applications.

Participation in outreach activities to society at large is also seen as a merit.

Your role and activities

As a Post Doc in the MERITA project, you will be central to the organization of the forum, the development of a research application and at least one co-authored publication. This represents 5 major areas of responsibilities. See also the full project description

1-Prepare the multidisciplinary workshops. This means proposing several paths to explore synergies between the disciplines represented by the project members.

2-Moderate the multidisciplinary conversations and decide conjointly with participants and project leader the key themes to explore in more depth.

3-Explore these themes and their problematisation. This will be the core of the research activities undertaken by the Post Doc. The exploration of these themes will be done with the support of participants (e.g., recommended readings) and in close collaboration with the project leader.

4-Draft at least one co-authored article for submission in a top ranked multidisciplinary journal, outlet that will be decided conjointly with participants. This article(s) will elaborate the problematisation that has emerged and been explored during the workshops and the investigation work of the Post Doc.

5-Draft a research proposal building on the topics and the problematisations identified in the workshops. It is expected that you want to be part of this new resesarch application as this can secure your future employment.

This draft is to be submitted to EU research funds and / or large national research fundings in the countries of the participants. The development of this draft will be done in conjunction with the Development Seminar, in which all practical and scientific aspects of the application will be clarified.

 

Conditions

Starting date for the position is negotiable, but preferably late spring 2023, with presence in Stockholm no later than August 2023. Your office will be located at the Department of Management and Organization. 

Salary is SEK 37,000 a month, for a full-time position (circa 3,370 Euros)

This Post Doc is a 80% position for 12 consecutive months.

  • A motivation letter detailing in separate paragraphs: (a) the reasons of your application, (b) specifying your experience with multi-disciplinary research, (c) the main contribution of your thesis and how it relates to the MERITA project, (d) your experience with drafting research application (if any) and (e) your experience with moderation of forum (e.g. organization of conference track, panels, etc).
  • Your academic CV, including publications (please also include conference submissions) and any other experience or skills relevant to your future activities in the MERITA project.
  • A list of contact persons for recommendation. The name and contact info of 3 persons who would recommend you (persons who have worked with you, for example)
  • A short PPT presentation in which you explain briefly how you would go about organizing each of the 5 main activities for which you will be responsible (1 slide per activity)
