SNS/SIFR Finance panel: How much capital do banks need?
After the financial crisis it has been widely accepted that banks need more capital. Opinions are however divided on how much capital is needed.
There is also a difference of opinion as to whether capital requirements should be related to banks’ total assets or to their total risks.
Not even the Swedish authorities have a total consensus. The Riksbank and the Finansinspektion have publicly expressed different views on these issues.
Therefore Erik Thedéen, Director General of the Finansinspektion, and Martin Flodén, Deputy Governor of the Riksbank have been invited to the
Finanspanel to explain how their respective institutions view these issues. Joining the discussion will be Hans Lindberg, General Manager of the Swedish Bankers’ Association.
The Finanspanel is the meeting forum of SNS and SIFR for the financial sector.
