SNS/SIFR Finance panel: Why have compensation levels in Finance risen so much?

During the last couple of decades compensation in the Finance industry has risen much more than in other sectors. Why is that? Is competition more fierce in Finance?

Is there a risk that the higher payment levels in Finance draws talent away from other industries?
