Finance and Policy: Inside the SEC with Jessica Wachter

How do financial economists shape the rules that govern markets? Jessica Wachter, former Chief Economist of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, reflects on three and a half years of high-stakes policy decisions, regulatory shifts, and political pressures.

In an era of evolving financial markets under a new Trump administration, her insights into the intersection of economics and government are more relevant than ever.

This will be an off-the-record, informal exchange of ideas with selected guests. The conversation will be led by Magnus Dahlquist, Professor of Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics and a researcher at the Swedish House of Finance.

Jessica A. Wachter is the Dr. Bruce I. Jacobs Professor in Quantitative Finance at the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania. She was previously at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission where she served as Chief Economist and Director of the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis. 

Magnus Dahlquist, Professor of Finance at SSE, specializes in asset pricing and international finance. He has taught debt markets, investment management, and global finance at Duke, LBS, SSE, and UNC-Chapel Hill. He has advised financial institutions and government bodies, including the Pension Authority and the Swedish Central Bank.
