apr. 07, 2014
The 2013 Assar Lindbeck Medal was awarded to Professor Mariassunta Giannetti. The prize is awarded every other year to a young researcher who has substantially contributed to the field of economics.
Giannetti has been a faculty member since 2000 at the Stockholm School of Economics and a full Professor in Finance since 2008. Giannetti researches the role of institutions and corporate governance for both management and financing decisions within firms. Her research exploits original micro datasets and provides empirical evidence for central questions in economics. This type of work requires a solid understanding of corporate structure and practicalities, an expert understanding of economic theory as well as statistical sophistication.
“My research has so far been very successful globally, thanks also to the generous funding of Swedish research foundations. I am happy that with this award it has reached recognition also in Sweden.” – Mariassunta commented on her receipt of the award.
Professor Giannetti combines world class analysis, an international perspective, and focus on corporate finance, corporate governance, and political forces. She exemplifies how modern financial research can contribute to building a better society. She is clearly a well-deserved recipient of the 2013 Assar Lindbeck Medal.
