Cooperation and commitment signature for PhD environment at the Swedish House of Finance
dec. 27, 2016
The 5th national workshop for PhD students in finance took place on 15 – 16 November at the Swedish House of Finance. With 54 participants and nine presenters it was two intensive days filled with feedback and discussions.
– Taking the time to meet other PhD-students, discuss research fields, methodologies and the research process can have a very positive impact especially for someone that is in the early phases of research, says Saara Hollmén, PhD student at KTH.
Saaras research focuses on the impact of policies on investment decision-making on the electrical power market and she is in her first year. She participated at the PhD workshop for inspiration to her own work and the opportunity to meet and network with researchers from other schools. During the event she had the chance to discuss different theoretical approaches to investment decision-making with another researcher that knew the area and could provide her with relevant reading advice.

The national workshop is a yearly event open for all PhD students working on finance topics in Sweden. Themes such as financial decision making, real estate prices, patents and crowd funding were among the presented papers. Most papers are working papers and the authors that get a chance to present can expect a lot of constructive feedback from experienced faculty members of Swedish institutions.
– It provides an opportunity to learn from those further ahead in their doctoral studies with experiences from developing their research and publishing. For me especially, it was good to see what lies ahead and prepare for the next stages in my writing, says Saara.
