jun. 18, 2019
Jan Starmans was recently accepted as a new member of the Finance Theory Group. Jan is Assistant Professor at the Stockholm School of Economics and a Research Fellow at the Swedish House of Finance. He obtained his PhD in Finance from London Business School in 2018.
His research focuses mostly on contract theory, corporate finance, and labor economics. His paper “Optimal Agents” explores why different types of firms might face different financial constraints when contractual frictions affect their relationship with investors. The paper shows how the contracting problem between firms and investors biases and potentially distorts investors’ investment decisions.
Members of the Finance Theory Group are researchers from leading institutions, who work primarily on the theory of corporate finance, financial institutions, and financial markets. The goal of the Finance Theory Group is to foster and promote theoretical research in the areas of corporate finance, financial institutions, and financial markets. The Finance Theory Group was founded by Itay Goldstein and Gustavo Manso in the fall of 2009. Since then, the organization of the group’s regular meetings rotates among members of the group. Participation is by invitation only.
