jun. 20, 2022
What will be the future of electronic money? Will it be CBDC? Will it be improved bank-rail services? Will it be cryptocurrency-based payments? Watch our interview with Stanford’s Professor Darrell Duffie, a specialist in financial payments.
“We’re at a crossroad right now. It is early but some important decisions are going to be made in the next few years. What will be the future of electronic money? Will it be CBDC? Will it be improved bank-rail services with instant payments being available to all in simple apps? Will it be cryptocurrency-based payments? All these questions are in the early stage of exploration, and it’s not just a question of technology, but of policy exploration,” says Duffie.
Duffie is an internationally recognized expert in the field of payment systems. He has been an adviser on financial markets to a range of bodies, including the Financial Stability Board and several Federal Reserve banks. He has also been called as an expert to witness on Central Bank Digital Currency to the US senate and the UK parliament.
The interview was carried out by Pehr Wissén, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Practice at the Swedish House of Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics.
