Organizing for Risk during the COVID-19 crisis: Improvising through Telemedicine in Reimagining Ophthalmic services - 11 Oct 2021
On October 11th, we welcomed Visiting Professor Michael Barrett in presenting an academic seminar about his latest research exploring the rapid adoption of video consultations in innovating eye services during the COVID-19 pandemic. This seminar represented an integrative and important part of the House of Innovation's strategy to build a research environment through engagement with prominent guests and their work.
Visiting Professor Barrett's research highlights how improvised practices emerged with the decentralization of authority and responsibility to frontline workers, resulting in developments that were central in organizing for risk during the crisis. His research also discusses how the meaning of artefacts and technologies shifted in relation to risk, and how processes of risk translation emerged.
Michael Barrett is a current Professor of Information Systems and Innovation Studies at University of Cambridge, where he also earned his PhD. In 2016, Michael was awarded the Distinguished Scholar award by the Organizational Communication & Information Systems (OCIS) division of the Academy of Management (AOM). He is currently on the Executive Committee of the OCIS Division.
