SSE provides a comprehensive benefits package to its employees

COMPANY HEALTH CARE

SSE employees have access to occupational health services. To qualify for these services, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Employed by SSE at least 30 percent of full time
  • Have a permanent position (trial employees) or employees in tenure track or a temporary position for the previous six months.

EYEGLASSES FOR WORK

If you work at least one hour per day at a computer terminal or experience difficulties with your vision, SSE pays for an eye examination. If the results show that glasses are needed at work, SSE pays the cost of glasses for terminal work. This benefit requires that the examination is carried out by the optician designated by SSE. The SSE Salary Office provides requisitions for examinations and eyeglasses.

INSURANCE

At SSE you are covered for:

  • Work injury insurance, injuries and accidents that occur at work or while travelling directly to and from the workplace.
  • Business travel insurance, accidents and illness during work-related travel
  • Occupational group life insurance (TGL)

TGL is valid for employees over 18 who work at least eight hours a week (22 percent).  

HEALTH AND FITNESS BENEFIT

SSE reimburses a portion of an employee’s costs for fitness activities. This benefit is regulated by the Swedish Tax Authority but is not taxed. It applies to all SSE employees and amounts to a maximum of 3000 per year for full-time employees. Part-time employees receive a prorated portion of this maximum amount. 

SSE has an agreement with Friskis & Svettis that provides a 15 % discount on yearly and seasonal gym memberships.

SSE has an agreement with Nordic Wellness that provides a 20 % discount on yearly memberships and a free first month to try out Nordic Wellness. 

SUPPLEMENTARY PARENT’S CASH BENEFIT

If you are employed at SSE and have worked for at least 90 consecutive days before taking paternal leave, you are entitled to a parental-leave supplement from SSE. The supplement is paid for days of paternal leave for which you claim more than the guaranteed level from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency. The supplement is paid for a maximum of 360 days per child. The supplement is 10 percent of the daily allowance paid by the Swedish Social Insurance Agency for employees whose do not exceed 10 times the price base amount calculated annually by the Statistics Sweden. For employees whose salaries exceed this amount, the supplement is 90 percent of the daily rate.

ART ASSOCIATION

SSE has an art association that organizes a range of activities including gallery visits, wine tasting and an annual art lottery. All employees and former employees are welcome. The membership fee is 50 SEK/month, which can be deducted directly from your salary if you choose.

 

VACATION

The length of your vacation varies depending upon your age. Your vacation time each year is proportional to the length of your employment that year. If, for example, your employment began on July 1 and your age gives you the right to 28 vacation days, you are entitled to 14 vacation days.

  • 28 paid vacation days up to and including the year an employee turns 29
  • 31 paid vacation days from the year an employee turns 30
  • 35 paid vacation days from the year an employee turns 40

The largest share of vacation should be taken during the summer (June through August).  It is, with permission, possible to save vacation days for use in a later year, but at least 20 vacation days must be used in the current year. Permission to save days must come in advance from your department head/manager, and requests should be made well ahead of time.

Vacation for faculty

Academic staff does not report vacation days. The assumption is that these days are taken between semesters and supplemental vacation pay is paid out in June and December. If you are a member of the academic staff and want to take vacation outside of these regular periods, you must make request to the head of your department no later than May 15 of the year in question. Approved requests must be received by the Payroll Office no later than May 31.

Christmas and New Year

In addition to regular vacation days, the days between Christmas (December 23) and New Year are consider nonworking days.

Vacation bonus 

Employeeacation day report. For academic staff, this is paid in two lump sums in June and December entitled to paid vacation also earn supplemental vacation pay. This pay amounts to 0.44 percent of your monthly salary for each reported vacation day used.
