  • Public Transportation

    Stockholm has an extensive public transportation system, including buses, subways (T-bana), commuter trains (pendeltåg), trams, and ferries. The public transportation system is operated by SL (Stockholm Public Transport).

  • Tickets

    To use public transportation in Stockholm, you need to purchase a ticket. Tickets can be purchased at ticket machines, SL centers, or through the SL app. You can buy single tickets, day tickets, or period tickets.

  • Travel Card

    The SL Access travel card is a rechargeable card that you can use to store tickets and travel credit. You can purchase the travel card at ticket machines or SL centers.

  • Fares

    The fares for public transportation in Stockholm depend on the length of your journey and the type of ticket you use. Children under 7 years old travel for free, while older children and adults pay full fare.

  • Bicycle

    Stockholm is a bike-friendly city, with many bike paths and bike rental stations. You can rent a bike from a rental station available or from for example "Rent Bike", available both in Stockholm and other parts of the country.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available in Stockholm, but they can be expensive. Make sure to use a licensed taxi service and ask for an estimate of the fare before starting your trip. The largest taxi companies in Sweden are for example SverigeTaxi and TaxiStockholm.

  • Traffic Rules

    In Sweden, you drive on the right-hand side of the road. Pedestrians have the right of way at crosswalks, and cyclists have their own lanes on many roads.

  • Car Ownership

    If you plan to own a car in Stockholm, you need to register it with the Swedish Transport Agency and purchase mandatory car insurance.

  • Travel outside of Stockholm

    If you plan to travel in Sweden, there are several means of transportations. You can use the Swedish railway network called "SJ", use different bus companies such as FlixBus, take domestic flights from Arlanda or Bromma airport, rent a car or take the ferry to visit Sweden's archipelagos.
