CSR Researchers: "Reduce taxes for everyone who lives near new wind turbines"

Our researchers Sven-Olof Junker and Lars-Gunnar Mattsson recently published a debate article about how a climate tax credit can speed up the expansion of wind power and compensate people affected by wind power's negative impact.

According to Junker and Mattson, the expansion of wind power is central to reach the climate goal of fossil-free electricity production. At the same time, almost four out of five wind power projects in Sweden are put on hold by municipal vetoes. It shows that the national climate policy is on a collision course with local governments.

The government is therefore investigating various alternatives to strengthen the municipalities' incentives to say yes to wind power. One solution would be to introduce a climate tax deduction for people who live near the new wind turbines that will be built. Such a deduction would also help to reduce inequalities arising from differences in the municipal income tax, writes Junker and Mattson.
