Congratulations Jonas Dahl, PhD!

The Department of Management and Organization is proud to announce that Jonas Dahl has presented and successfully defended his PhD-thesis, titled "The Dynamics of Failure Sharing" on February 21st.

In a culture dominated by success stories, Jonas' has instead been intrigued by the different ways we can handle our failures within organizations. His findings emphasize the value of sharing one's failures with co-workers for organizational learning and well-being and promoting a mindset focused on growth, rather than on upholding a fixed state of affairs. Jonas investigates the differences between shame and guilt in relating to one's failures and shows how guilt supports the sharing of failures while shame hinders it.

The praise and discussions raised during the dissertation, from the opponent, Amy Edmondson, Harvard Business school, and the grading committee (Christoph Seckler, Anna Essén and Katja Einola), as well as the assembled audience, are testament to the pioneering nature of this research as well as its importance. If managed mindfully, our failures can be an invaluable source of learning and innovation!
