Post-Doc Position for research on Shared Value and Corporate-Community Sustainability

Misum invites engaged scholars to apply for a Post-Doc position in the area of corporate strategy, community engagement and social impact. 

Research:

The research will contribute in an emerging field of research interested in the business role in society at large and questions on if and how enterprise-centered shared value initiatives extend into collective impact, and can contribute to transformational change to complex social issues.  

 The position is linked to a research project with Skandia with the aim to understand and explore business engagement in social and community contexts on the basis of shared value initiatives.  Some of the guiding research questions to the project are:

  • What is shared value and how is it related to collective impact?
  • What are the conditions for shared value and collective impact to be created?
  • How is shared value created in collective projects with multi-sector engagement and partnership?
  • How can collective impact be incorporated into enterprise-centered shared value business strategy?
  • How can shared value be assessed and operationalized in local contexts?

You will perform empirical studies with mixed method approach of business-community settings in Sweden. The ambition is to make two in-depth cases, of which one is the study of Frölunda Torg in Gothenburg where considerable efforts have been made to create an inclusive and prosperous community.   Qualitative methods, such as interviews, focus groups and workshops with a broad set of stakeholders, will be complemented with literature, archival and statistical data analysis. 

Your research will be part of a broader ambition to build a research competence platform around shared value that will further develop the concepts, undertake and develop operationalization and measurements, as well as developing teaching cases. The research will be in line with Misum’s mission to enable dialogue between practice and research and are expected to be disseminated trough academic publications as well as through outreach activities with our stakeholders. 

The research environment:

You will join a team of researchers at the Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets, at Stockholm School of Economics, were a wide set of research on sustainability and corporate social responsibility is conducted. Your research will be part of the research platform Sustainability in Consumption and Production lead by Associate Professor, PhD Susanne Sweet.  In addition the Skandia project involves a network of affiliated researchers that will aid the project such as Tommy Borglund, Örebro University, as well as an international team of advisors that have expertise in the concept and measurements of shared value.

Qualifications and requirements:

We are looking for a candidate that has a PhD in business administration; business economics; sociology or other social science with a focus on business community studies. A high analytical capability is a prerequisite.   The PhD degree should not be older than 5 years.

Special merits can be methodological knowledge and experience of field studies; theoretical knowledge on community stakeholder processes and/or business-social impact.  We are looking for a person that can work both individually and in groups, used to take own initiatives and with experience of publication in highly ranked academic journals.  Good language proficiency in spoken and written English and sufficient knowledge in written and spoken Swedish or Scandinavian.

You are expected to: (1) contribute to the team’s development of the research area shared value and participation in the groups applications for additional funding; (2) to engage in outreach and feedback activities connected to the research project at least once a year; (3) three publishable papers on shared value and community impact in international academic journals. (4) Opportunities of teaching can be discussed.

Employment:

The employment is a 2 years full research time (100%) post-doc position, starting August 2017 (or according to agreement) and ending July 2019.
