Can government change save Belarus – the last Soviet economy

SvD Näringsliv recently interviewed Torbjörn Becker – Director of Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics – sharing his impression about the current situation in Belarus and what potential role Russia have in all of this.
Belarus is currently state-controlled and dependent on Russia. But the Belarusian economy may look different if the hundreds of thousands of protesters get what they want – the authoritarian leader stepping down from power, according to Torbjörn Becker in SvD Näringsliv.
"If you get rid of the stop block at the top, I see good opportunities to develop their cooperation with the EU much closer and be interesting for investors", he adds.
Torbjörn Becker also mentions that many are worried about Russia’s potential involvement: "It is hard to believe that they would not do it, so it is mostly a question of in what way".
