SSE students to enhance the status of the teaching profession

Erik Tivenius and Emanuel Rezvani Arany, both students at the Stockholm School of Economics, have been awarded the Gun & Einar Larsson scholarship 2015 (GELS) for their project ‘Enhancing the status of the teaching profession’.

The president of the Stockholm School of Economics Lars Strannegård, who appointed the scholars, acknowledges that:

Erik Tivenius and Emanuel Rezvani Arany have presented a challenging, hands-on project which addresses an interesting debate in today’s society. By comparing the Swedish situation with two positive but different examples such as Finland and China, this project gives a wide perspective on the status of the teaching profession.

The Gun and Einar Larsson Scholarship offers outstanding students at Stockholm School of Economics the opportunity to create and realize innovative projects abroad according to their own design. The aim of the scholarship is to offer experience and personal development outside of the academic realm that benefits the student’s education and professional aspirations.

During the summer break, Erik and Emanuel will visit primary schools, teachers’ colleges and the departments of education in the two countries, where they will make observations and conduct interviews.

“We are both very interested in how the quality of the Swedish educational system can be improved, and feel privileged to be given the opportunity to go abroad and experience two countries where teachers are considered to have a relatively high status”, says Erik Tivenius and Emanuel Rezvani Arany.
