The consequences of the British voters’ decision to leave the European Union and the future relationship between the UK and the EU remain uncertain. We believe it is essential to address concerns of both the UK and the EU and consider how companies and individuals will be affected by Brexit. Within the framework of this continuing seminar
series, we discuss the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead with the ambition to generate a constructive dialogue.

Mark Sweeney

Mark Sweeney is Director General for Justice Policy, Strategy and Communications at the Ministry of Justice. The group is responsible for policy on courts and tribunal systems; EU and international policy (including the implications of the UK’s exit from the European Union), and the Lord Chancellor’s relationship with, and policy on, the judiciary and the legal sector. Mr Sweeney is also responsible for strategy and communications for the Department, including supporting Ministers and the wider Department through the private offices and Parliamentary team. He has previously held a number of key roles, including Constitution Director at the Cabinet Office responsible for policy on elections and referendums, the UK's constitutional settlement and devolution; Director for Law, Rights and International at the Ministry of Justice; and Principal Private Secretary to Ken Clarke as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.

Erik Lagerlöf

Adjunct Professor Erik Lagerlöf has been involved with EU law as an academic, practitioner and EU civil servant for over 10 years. With an academic background from Cambridge University, EUI and Harvard Law School, Professor Lagerlöf is also a barrister and he has worked as legal secretary to both the Swedish and British judge at the European Court of Justice. He is currently a senior associate at Vinge law firm and Adjunct Professor of law at the Stockholm School of Economics as well as a Visiting Fellow at St Edmund’s College (Cambridge University). Professor Lagerlöf publishes and advises on Brexit related issues.
