Sustainability in focus when SSE’s star jury backs nine new companies
The competition among the applicants is always tough. To get green-lit, the companies first have to impress the Board of Admissions, with notable names such as Lisa Lindström, Sebastian Knutsson and Mattias Miksche. This time, nine companies managed to convince the Board of their potential. Six of them are starting the Activate program, an eight-week acceleration program, and three companies are starting the Incubate program, where they can receive support for up to 18 months.
The sustainability trend is clear among the admitted companies. Everything from marketplaces where e-commerce vendors can find sustainable packaging to innovative microfinance solutions increasing access to capital for SMEs in Africa, can be found among the new startups.
The CEO of SSE Business Lab, Julia Delin, is thrilled that sustainability continues to be such a strong driver among the companies in the incubator.
"We are here to help our companies grow and scale, and we want to do this with ideas and teams who work for the improvement of society and the world. By working actively with the entrepreneurs in our early programs we can help them start impact companies and incorporate both risks and opportunities with regard to sustainability. We are definitely seeing promising results from our work", she says.
Mattias Miksche, one of the members of the Board of Admissions, is impressed by the companies.
"To see such a wide spectrum of companies was impressive, both among the applicants to the Activate program and the Incubate program. All teams that received a yes are companies that we believe have a huge potential and we look forward to seeing them develop in SSE Business Lab", he says.
In the incubator, the companies will get support through coaching, workshops, mentoring, a partner network, investor networks and more. All startups with a team member who is a student, alumni or faculty member of the Stockholm School of Economics can apply to the incubator. Read more on SSE Business Lab’s website, ssebl.com.
