I am the Carl Bennet & Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Professor in Economics and the Executive Director of Misum (Mistra Center of Sustainability Center).
I am affiliated with Jameel-Poverty Action Lab (J-Pal), a CEPR Research Fellow, and a BREAD Affiliate.
My research focuses on topics in development economics related to child health, public service delivery, and how to improve primary education in low-income countries. Most of my research projects are randomized control trials (the experiment-based approach that was awarded Nobel Prize in Economics Sciences in 2019) implemented in sub-Saharan Africa and India that evaluate and examine innovative policy programs aimed to improve child health and learning outcomes. With Associate Professor Abhijeet Singh, I am also working on a randomized controlled trial on the effect of peers on the integration of migrants in Sweden
My research has appeared in leading journals including the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of the European Economic Association, the American Economic Journal – Applied Economics, the Journal of Development Economics, and Nature Medicine. My research has received public interest in international and Swedish media (Swedish television, the Economist, Washington Post, NPR radio, Huffington Post, Washington Post, New York Time blogs etc.).
I obtained my Ph.D. in Economics from the Institute for International Economic Studies at Stockholm University. Before joining SSE, I was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics at Bocconi University in Italy.
